Local shops and eateries are open year-round so there is plenty to do during your visit to Pier Village. Tickets for a 90 minute skate session can be purchased online and the cost varies per day/time selected. Prices range from roughly $10-$20+ per person depending on if you need rentals, when you go, and the promotion they are running for that day, if any. Some of the most notable indoor rinks offer skating lessons, hockey leagues, and special events, providing a fun and active way to enjoy the colder months in New Jersey. An ice skating rink is also a great place for a kids birthday party or a private function. Bergen County’s Winter Wonderland is held annually at Van Saun Park which is set within Paramus and River Edge, NJ.
Public
The Winter Wonderland includes a variety of winter festivities including a hockey-sized ice rink, food vendors, train rides and more. Tickets to visit the Winter Wonderland Friday-Sunday, and more information, can be found here. Admission to the Winter Wonderland including ice skating and skate rental on weekends is $20 (+ $1.99 fee) per person ages 3+ and also includes one carousel ride. If you are only interested in ice skating, then you can visit The Rink at Winter Wonderland on open skate days which can be found here. Tickets for the open skate are $10 (+ $1.49 fee) per person ages 3+, and give you one skate session for 90 minutes plus skate rentals if needed. The Roosevelt Park Family Skating Rink is now open through March 26, 2023, weather permitting.
Public Skating
The Ice House Learn To Skate ("LTS") program is ranked among the 10 best programs in the entire country by the Learn to Skate USA. The LTS program consists of a comprehensive lesson and testing structure that is very exciting, rewarding, safe and fun. All season long on the Devils Hockey Network, play-by-play man Matt Loughlin has been sitting down with your favorite New Jersey Devils to get to know them a little bit better off the ice in his Icebreakers segment.
SKATING CAMP
Skaters interested in the Ice House Academy must have completed a minimum of Basic 2 & have their own skates. WinterFest Ice Skating at Cooper River Park is back in Cherry Hill, NJ! Skating is running now through February 26, 2023, and available Thursday-Sunday plus President’s Day. Rink Admission is $7.50 per person or $5.50 per child ages 5-12, seniors, and veterans. Visitors also have the option to purchase an unlimited skate pass for the season for $125 (skate rental not included).
Ice skating in New Jersey is a popular winter activity enjoyed by both locals and visitors. Skate rental is included in admission price, and admission is for the duration of a public skating session. If you choose to skate during the winter at a neighborhood pond or lake, (many are free) please exercise caution as the ponds ice surface are often natural and un-groomed, and tend to have rough surfaces.
Figure Skating
Skating is usually permitted when the ice is five or more inches thick and notice is given to skaters under a flag system; RED - No Skating; Green - Safe to Skate. Dan has managed programs that have developed thousands of players from the tri-state area; many of these players have gone on to successful college and professional careers. The Avalanche host close to 40 travel hockey teams at a variety of levels, both Tier I and Tier II. Every week one of our designated testers will evaluate to see if the skater is ready to advance to the next level. Once the skater has successfully passed a test, we will immediately move him/her to the next level and give them a certificate of achievement. Whether your goal is to achieve Olympic fame or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Ice House LTS program is the ideal thing for you.
Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks to Visit This Winter 2022-23 in New Jersey
Visitors come to this outdoor rink, that overlooks the beautiful Roosevelt Park Lake, to enjoy open skating, lessons, and even rink rentals. Admission is $6 per adult, and $5 per child 17 & under or per senior. The rink is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and for more information on their exact schedule, read here. While you can pop on a pair of skates and venture out on your own, to really benefit from all the sport has to offer, ice skating lessons are recommended.
All of the indoor rinks listed here, and some of the winter outdoor rinks have excellent group and private instruction packages available. Each skater will have off ice training classes that include strength and conditioning, stretching, and when appropriate jump technique. This group training environment not only alleviates high training costs but is proven to motivate young athletes while offering an added benefit of socialization in what would normally be an individualized activity.

The state boasts numerous indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and ponds that cater to all skill levels, from beginners to professional skaters. The Figure Skating Program at the Ice House has gained worldwide recognition for its Olympic level skaters and coaches, while still maintaining a comfortable and fun atmosphere for the entry-level skater. For our 4 and 5 year olds we offer a 4 level Tot program (called Snowplow Sam) to prepare them for our regular classes.
